So far in my journey of becoming a beauty vegan, I’ve been lucky that all of my staples have turned out to be vegan. Unfortunately, my favorite eyeshadow primer, Urban Decay Primer Potion, is not vegan. Urban Decay’s Anti-Aging Primer Potion shows up on the vegan search, but it doesn’t have their Vegan paw symbol, so I wanted to play it safe. I tried 4 different vegan eyeshadow primers to find the closest replacement.
This will be a 3-part series. Today, the contenders. Then, the results on the powder shadow showdown and finally, the results on the cream shadow showdown. To make it totally fair, I used the same shadow combination for all of the powder trials, and then the same cream shadow combination for those trials.
First, a look at the Urban Decay Primer Potion:
It’s more cream than liquid, and isn’t particularly sticky/tacky. In general, this doesn’t cause creasing in the eyeshadow, liquid or cream.
Contender #1: e.l.f. eye primer
e.l.f. hypes this primer will “set your eyeshadow…so your color won’t fade, bleed or crease”.
This is more cream than liquid. This is probably the stickiest/tackiest of all the primers, including the Urban Decay.
Emani Magic Sealer
I don’t know if you can see it well from this swatch, but this is a clear primer. More liquid than cream. Applies with a doe-foot applicator.
The All Natural Face “Magic” Vegan Eye Shadow Primer
The All Natural Face hypes you will LOVE this if you like Urban Decay Potion Primer, MAC Paint and Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
This is more cream than liquid. Applies with a doe-foot applicator.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Skin Primer
I don’t know if you can tell from the swatch, but this is also clear. It’s more liquid than cream. This is also a sticky/tacky primer.
Results of the powder shadow part of the showdown on Wednesday!
