Skin Deep

Here at Vegan Beauty, the primary concern is always the animals.  And while many vegan products have far fewer scary ingredients than their PETA’s most-wanted counterparts, there are still some crazy things out there.  I was recently introduced to Skin Deep, a cosmetics database run by the Environmental Working Group.  Basically, they take ingredients lists and compare them against databases with known toxins.

If a product is in their database, you can get info about the ingredient concerns, how much they know about those ingredients and an overall hazard score from 0-10.  Depending on what product you search for, it can make you feel pretty smug or stop your heart.  The vegan brands tend to have lower hazard scores than the others, so that may make us all feel a little smug today.

PS  The database is also available as an app.
